Procedure to Change Master Admin in QuickBooks Online

This procedure will be completed in two different sections or in steps. Let’s start the procedure:

Step 1: Sign in as Master Administrator

In the first step, you need to sign in to QuickBooks Online as the current master administrator.

Can’t log into QuickBooks Online

When you can’t log into the QuickBooks online, just follow the below-given steps:

  • Go to accounts.intuit.com and choose I forgot my user ID or password below.
  • Or, if the person who has a master administrator account is not available, send a request to Intuit to change the master administrator.

Step 2: Creating a New Company Administrator User (For the old Interface)

  • First, you need to sign in as the Company Administrator or Master Administrator.
  • After that, go to the Gear Icon at the top and select it. And then click on Manage Users.
  • Click on the option of New.
  • After that, go to Company Administrator, and click on it, and then select the Next option.
  • You need to find the name of the New User and his email address needs to be entered in this step.
  • And then, click on the Next option.
  • Complete the prompt and then click on the option of Finish.
  • After that, you need to Log out of QuickBooks.
  • The person you added will get an email, confirming him to be a Company Administrator.
  • The person needs to click on the link and log in with the existing credentials if he has any. Otherwise, they can create a new user id and login.
  • The person will log in and reset his login credentials.
  • You will need to log in again as Master Administrator to repeat the same process for another user.
  • And once finished, then at the last log out of QuickBooks  Online.

Step 3: Select or Invite the New Master Admin

Here in this step, you can invite a new user or choose an existing one to become the master admin, and the details are given below:-

Invite New User for Master Admin

  • Sign in as the Company Administrator or Master Administrator.
  • And then, go to the Gear Icon at the top and select it.
  • Click on the option of Manage Users.
  • After that, click on the Add User option.
  • Go to Company Administrator, click on it, and then select the option of Next.
  • The name of the New User and his email address needs to be entered in this step. Click Save.
  • Then, you need to sign out of QuickBooks.
  • The person needs to click on the link and log in with the existing credentials if he has any. Otherwise, they can create a new user id and login.
  • The person will log in and reset his login credentials.
  • You will need to log in again as Master Administrator to repeat the same process for another user.
  • And once you finished, then at the last log out of QuickBooks Online.

Select an Existing User for Master Admin

  • Firstly, click on the Gear icon at the top and then Manage Users.
  • Look out for the admin you want to make Master Admin and go to the Action column and click on the Drop-down Arrow.
  • Click Make Master Admin.
  • Confirm your action by selecting Make Master Admin once more.
  • Log out of QuickBooks Online.
  • The user you made master admin will receive an email, confirming his Master Administratorship. He’ll need to click on the link to accept the invitation.
  • Ask them to log in with their old credentials.
